The age-old dream of the human caravan is not to send astronauts in their orbit in outer space.. it is to send its individuals - every single individual in his orbit of self-realization. It is high time that this dream be thus reinterpreted. It is also the sacred duty of every man and woman to help intelligently reorientate human endeavour towards the culmination of this pilgrimage.
Translation of selected quotations from Ustazh Mahmoud Muhammad Taha's books.
Man is Allah in the Process of Being
When the inner self realizes the divine secret of destiny and ascertains that Allah is sheer goodness, it subsides, reconciles, surrenders and yields to Allah. Thus the self becomes free from fear and achieves peace within and with objects, animate and inanimate. The inner self then purifies its thoughts of evil, holds back its tongue from obscenity and restrains its hand from assault. The inner self then achieves its oneness and becomes sheer goodness that spontaneously radiates pleasant attributes like a fragrant rose emanates aroma.
At this stage, the heart bows for ever at the first rank of bondage to Allah, and man is no longer predestined, as predestination has led him to a status of eminence whereby he assumes a liberty of choice. This is because man has obeyed Allah to such an extent that Allah by reward obeys him. Thus man becomes alive as Allah, omniscient as Allah, willful as Allah, omnipotent as Allah and becomes Allah.
Allah has no definite image to be assumed, nor an end to be finally reached. However, man’s share of divinity is an everlasting process of becoming by rejuvenating his mental and sentimental life at every moment, in pursuance of Allah’s saying about Himself “ In every day He has a manifestation”. This is the objective of worship as summarized by the impeccable Prophet when he advised us “Adopt the attributes of Allah, as my God holds to a righteous track”. The Almighty also says, “Be godlike, as you comprehend the Book and as you contemplate”.
